George Gardner (priest)
George Lawrence Harter Gardner was an eminent Anglican priest〔(National Archives )〕 in the first quarter of the twentieth century.〔GARDNER, Ven. Gardner was born on 1 September 1853, educated at Cheltenham College and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge,〔“Alumni Cantabrigienses” Venn,J/Venn,J.A Cambridge, Cambridge University Press” Vol 2Part 3 pg12〕 and ordained in 1875. After a curacy at St. Mary's, Nottingham he was the incumbent at All Saints, Cheltenham〔‘ECCLESIASTICAL INTELLIGENCE’ The Hampshire Advertiser (Southampton, England), Saturday, July 17, 1886; pg. 2; Issue 4183〕 until 1911.〔(Parish web-site )〕 From then until 1920 he was Diocesan Chaplain to the Bishop of Birmingham; and Archdeacon of Aston from 1913. His last post was Archdeacon of Cheltenham.〔(Gloucestershire Archives on-line )〕
